Activities
through Nature conservation Society
- Awareness building
on the threats to natural environment through youth participation in towns
and rural schools of south Jharkhand covering more than 5000 youth every
year since 1976 the nature clubs of youths and students are function in
Schools, Colleges and rural areas to aware general mass on Nature Conservation.
- Scientific researches
on wildlife behavior, ecology and ethnology in Palamau Tiger Reserve and
8 PA in Jharkhand and Bihar Scientific studies on tier prey species ana
ecology of elephants in Palamau Tiger Reserve.
- Bio-diversity Survey
and monitoring of Palamau Tiger Reserve and forests areas as (PA and Non
PA of Jharkhand) since 1976. Surveyed the status of tigers in Non-PA of
Jharkhand for conservation awareness on tigers.
- Prepared biodiversity
Register for 8 Protected Areas of Bihar and Jharkhand on status, extent
of utilization, people's purview on conservation and then action plan to
protect these sanctuaries under BCPP. WWF-India.
- Conservation of
Tiger & Elephant through people participation (Tribal) by creation of
tribal Protection groups in different proceed forests. More than 300 such
groups have been formed.
- Sustainable. Participatory
development of trebles through Eco-development Watershed development Program
in about 180 villages of Palamau, Latehar and Garhwa districts of Jharkhand
to mitigate pressure on PTR and to involve local villagers in forest and
Wildlife Conservation.
- Developed information
network to curb poaching and trade of wildlife skin in other parts etc in
Palamau, Garhwa and other areas of Jharkhand and Bihar.
- Development of tribal
women and Youth trough self help groups and User's Group to mitigate pressure
on forests on grazing, illicit removal of bio-diversity components. The
formation of tribal Mahila Mandals in Garu Block has created awareness on
Rights, Schemes and self sustained economic growth in these groups. These
Mahila Mandals are now planning and executing schemes, organizing welfare
camps literacy drives etc.
- Appointed Nodal agency
for Bihar and Jharkhand under National Biodiversity strategy and Action
Plan (NBSAP) of MOEF GOI.
- Appointed consultant
on ecological consequence studies in Palamau Tiger Reserve under India eco-development
project of World Bank.
- Listed Medicinal
Plants used by tribal doctors in Jharkhand.
- Initiated farming
of medicinal plants by tribal to conserve insitu plants of protected forest.
- Implementing Watershed
Development Program in 24 micro watersheds in Palamau, Latehar and Garhwa
districts to increase biomass. Water and Soil conservation and economic
development of people particularly in tribal areas.
- Involved student
community in preparing the list of birds, plants and pollution causing factors.
- Conducted the survey
of fluoride problem in drinking water in different villages and has developed
"Palamau Technology" to clean fluoride and hardness with rural
available materials.
- Conducting media
alert through T.V., Radio and Print Media on various problems of biodiversity
tribal development and youth participation.
